VG’s Review of Forms of Cultural Loss

Valuer General’s Review of Forms of Cultural Loss and the Process and Method for Quantifying Compensation for Compulsory Acquisition

Under the NSW Land Acquisition (Just Terms Compensation) Act 1991, the Valuer General is tasked with determining compensation for the acquisition of land, including any native title rights and interests in relation to land, which may include compensation for cultural loss.

The Valuer General is developing a policy for the determination of compensation for cultural loss following compulsory acquisition and has undertaken a review of international and Australian valuation practice for the determination of compensation for cultural loss.

The review is now open for community feedback prior to the Valuer General finalising a policy for the determination of compensation for cultural loss. A copy of the review can be found here.

Community feedback on the review and suggested policy guidelines is welcomed via email to valuergeneral@ovg.nsw.gov.au. Please submit any feedback by close of business on Friday 20 August 2021.
