Mid-Western regional land value review released

On 18 October 2012 the Valuer General requested an independent review into the statutory valuation processes carried out for the determination of land values, as at 1 July 2011, for the Mid-Western Regional Council (MWRC) area.

The review was requested to provide the Valuer General with assurance that the practices and procedures used by the contract valuer and audit processes and practices within Land and Property Information (LPI) are efficient, effective and fit for purpose.

The review was carried out by Professor Michael Hefferan, from the University of the Sunshine Coast. His investigation included a desktop review of relevant documents and interviews with the Valuer General, members of the Valuer General’s staff and senior officers of LPI. Professor Hefferan also visited Mudgee and surrounds to interview local council staff, LPI staff, contract staff, landowners and industry representatives operating in that area.

Professor Hefferan presented the final report to the Valuer General in March 2013.

A summary of the Mid-Western Regional Land Value Review (PDF 3.7 MB) is available to download, which includes details of actions already undertaken by the Valuer General and LPI in response to the review’s recommendations.

Following the review, and after consulting further with Council, the Valuer General has brought forward the revaluation of land in the Mid-Western Regional LGA area from 1 July 2014 to 1 July 2013.
